Rise Up

Rise Up

Hi Shenanigan Enthusiasts!

It has been an eventful week here at the funny farm! While I was out of town last weekend Jeff and the boys were taking care of the whole gang. After returning about 1:30 am from an away football game for Kyler, our pup Waylon wanted out. He often likes to sleep on the pup bed we keep on the porch. After finally crawling into bed and falling asleep Jeff woke up to crazy barking. He found Waylon at the front door looking like he had been pepper sprayed. As he told me the story over the phone the next morning he told me to guess what animal he had crossed paths with, I guessed a mountain lion, and then a bear before he said it was a skunk! Before Jeff knew what had happened he opened the door and Waylon ran in crashing onto his bed and rolling around ensuring the scent was everywhere! He bathed Waylon as best he could with what we had on hand for such an occasion and threw both dog beds away but the aroma was there to stay for a few more days no matter what he did. The next day Jeff was working in the office and came out to find our other pup Lucy throwing up, likely from the Rowdy sh*t buffet she indulges on any chance she gets. After that he heard Rowdy mooing and looked out the window to see Betty and June tootling along outside the funny farm fence!!! Can you say SH*T SHOW!

Meanwhile I was having a blast in Arizona with my sister sipping bubbly and dancing in my pajamas with a bunch of amazing powerhouse ladies! I can’t say I was sad to miss the shenanigans happening at home. I think I timed that well! I got home Sunday feeling rejuvenated, inspired, and oh so grateful!

I was sad to miss Kyler’s first football game of the season! I love this picture and I love even more that Kyler made sure to get a picture with Jeff to document his first time starting in a varsity game. Raptors for the win! Looking forward to the home game tonight!!!💙🏈

Sh*t Happens

Sh*t happens and when you have a funny farm it happens a lot! Upon returning home there was a good amount of sh*t to shovel. As always so many life lessons to reflect on here at the funny farm. Jeff and the boys kept everyone fed and alive but they didn’t sign up to shovel sh*t, that was all me. I own that. Life is all about choices. I chose a funny farm, which means I chose to shovel sh*t. Even if you don’t have a funny farm sometimes the choices we make along the way result in having to shovel a little of the sh*t life can dish out. It’s not if but when you will need a shovel. Sometimes sh*t is inevitable and beyond our control. It’s not the sh*t that matters, it’s how we choose to “shovel” the sh*t. That is were our power lies. For me whether I am literally shoveling sh*t here everyday or navigating the inevitable challenges life presents I put on my boots, turn up some tunes and embrace it knowing I will be better, wiser and stronger for all of it.

It Happens by Sugarland (click to listen to Sh*t Shoveling theme song!)

Ain't no rhyme or reason

No complicated meaning

Ain't no need to over think it

Let go laughing

Life don't go quite like you planned it

We try so hard to understand it

Irrefutable, indisputable

Fact is

Psssh ( sh*t ) It happens

Rise Up

Sometimes when we are shoveling the sh*t of life we can feel broken down and tired, that’s when we need to lean. Lean into the pain, the lean into the struggle and lean on our tribe. We can’t do it all on our own all the time. We all have strengths and we all have weaknesses. The beautiful thing is, when we combine our strengths we can rise up together. Sometimes the strongest thing we can do is ask for help. The best is when you don’t even have to ask because your people just know and show up.

Betty & June continued to bust out of a weak spot in the fence. I did my best to do a make shift repair, knowing we plan to add to and replace a large portion of fence soon. I was actually quite proud of myself and was showing Kyler my handy work before he left for school when we watched Betty wriggle her way right back through. Damn it! I am not as good at fence repair as I am at shoveling sh*t but it did make for an good laugh. Geesh! I did another make shift repair that contained them for the day but that night at dinner June went tootling by the back porch. Damn it again!!! They do make me laugh. I love their persistent spirit and of course their inspiration for my LAUGH ‘TIL YOU SNORT goodies!!! No doubt these not so little ladies are living heir BEST LIFE.

After dinner and a long day of work, followed by coaching football, Jeff gathered what we needed and headed down to help me repair the fence. And by help me, I mean he repaired and I supervised. As always shenanigans ensued! Goats on golf carts. Pigs snorting along, ‘pacas and Rowdy clicking their heels running about and poor Buddy just stared through the wide open fence wondering how they all got out there. Grateful for Shenanigans! I didn’t have to ask Jeff, he just did it because that’s what our “people” do. While I am pretty badassie at some things I can’t do it all. Thank goodness he is pretty BADASS at the things I fall short in. Together we navigate life’s lessons and blessings and RISE UP.

RISE UP by Andra Day (click to listen and Rise Up with us)

You're broken down and tired

Of living life on the merry-go-round

And you can't find the fighter

But I see it in you, so we gonna walk it out

Move mountains

We gonna walk it out

And move mountains

And I'll rise up

I'll rise like the day

I'll rise up

I'll rise unafraid

I'll rise up

And I'll do it a thousand times again

The words from my heart this week were inspired by my tribe, especially my hubby, mental edge coach Darleen Santore who I got to meet last weekend and celebrating overcoming life’s sh*t, better for the lessons and grateful for the blessings.
