Peaks & Valleys

Peaks & Valleys

Hi Shenanigan Enthusiasts!

Happy April! I guess I was the fool this April fool’s day because I was hoping for flip flops and sunshine, instead mother nature gave me sideways snow and muck boots. I guess she knows best! The blustery weather didn’t keep the funny farm down. All but Betty and June were out frolicking in the wind and snow enthusiastically nibbling up their treats. Sunshine is in the forecast this weekend, yay! No doubt the whole gang will enjoy soaking up the rays.

As usual, it has been an eventful month, Betty and June had a spa day. I am grateful for the tribe I am building to make the magic happen around here. Dr. Kelsey and her team came out to trim up the girls (pigs) hooves and give Chip a booster shot. They were so happy to see Chip and see how much he has grown since he spent a week at the office with them before he found his home here at The Funny Farm. Betty and June have pretty trimmed hooves, clean ears and a pep in their step! We all decided we are gonna paint their hooves next time. Perks of having a female veterinarian team! The girls have to be sedated to get the job done. It’s always entertaining to watch drunk pigs. I love Rowdy’s sweet, nosey, heart. He stood at the barn door peeking in the crack at the door watching over the whole process. After the pampering was over Betty and June were sleepy so they snuggled up to snooze off their buzz. Rowdy came in and made sure all was well. Always love and shenanigans.

Speaking of shenanigans Chip is full of them! He runs around clicking his heels, mooing, finding the sweet mix stash and enthusiastically demanding his bottle in the mornings. I am cherishing the last couple weeks of bottle feeding him. More bottle feeding news coming up. But first, more shenanigans! While sprinkling out the morning grain treats one morning Rasta got mad at Buddy and I got caught in the cross fire. Yep, a spit shower in my face. The spit was fine but the smell, dear lord. NASTY!!! Nasty as it was I had to laugh at myself and smile, thanking God that this is my crazy, tragic, sometimes almost magic, awful, beautiful life.

New Beginnings

Spring is in the air. With Spring comes new possibilities, blossoms, beautiful colors, more sunshine as the days grow longer, and babies. Yes, babies, we are so excited to be  welcoming Piper and Petunia to the Funny Farm in a few weeks. More bottles, more babies, more love, more sh*t to shovel and surely more shenanigans to come!

Evolution - Thrive Farm Company

We love our whole Funny Farm crew. Our love for the Highland cattle, and the investment that love requires has inspired us to evolve into a small Micro Mini Highland farm. I have been on a wait list for a little heifer calf for almost two years. Last weekend I participated in an auction hoping to turn that dream into reality sooner than later but unfortunately lost out at the end. Monday Jeff sent me a picture of two sweet baby heifers, he had just spoken to a farmer in Nebraska about and said go for it. And with that The Funny Farm is evolving into Thrive Farm Company. I hope you will enjoying being a part of this journey with us. Of course, the Funny Farm will always be exactly that! Now it will be The Funny Farm at Thrive Farm Co. I don’t have it all figured out but I know everything is Figureoutable (click HERE to check out one of my favorite reads). It feels right. It feels like it ties the many things I love together, family, love, shenanigans, cute farm animals, the V-S-T Podcast, Thriver Tribe, Retreats and taking leaps to turn our dreams into reality. Thrive Farm Company represents what is possible when we take the leap and strive to THRIVE.

Reflection - Peaks and Valleys

While shoveling sh*t every day down at the Funny Farm I am surrounded by beautiful mountain peaks and valleys. Though not a day goes by I don’t appreciate the breathtaking gifts that they are, I have never reflected on the metaphor they represent of life until reading aka, listening to the audio version of the book Peaks and Valleys by Spencer Johnson, M.D. (click HERE to check it out).

I love the perspective of life being a journey of both walking through valleys and climbing peaks. We can’t appreciate one without the other. May we learn and grow through the valleys, find strength in the climbs and enjoy the view when reach the peaks. The valleys we have navigated lead us to the peak that offers the view or perspective that makes something that once would have seemed impossible, like starting the Thrive Farm Co., possible. Our if only’s have turned into why nots. After all everything is Figureoutable. It doesn’t mean there are not valleys we still have to navigate, we just know we can and we will. Today I am celebrating all the peaks and valleys that have come and gone and looking forward to embracing the journey of this next chapter. I would love to know in the comments, what are you celebrating today? Cheers to the journey!
