Miracles

Miracles

Hi Shenanigan Enthusiasts!

I don’t know about you, but I am loving the feeling of fall in the air! Crisp cool mornings and evenings with crystal clear skies. Goodbye wildfire smoke! The whole funny farm gang is loving it too. Rowdy has come to expect an evening walk and moos to let us know it’s time. Most evenings I head down to the barnyard to open up the gate and they all come meandering out.  Well, everyone but our sweet Buddy who wanders around wondering why they are out there in the great unknown, as he stares through the wide open gate! Every time he holds himself back I hope he will figure it out so he too, can frolic with the rest of the gang. More life lessons from the Funny Farm.

I love every season for the gifts each has to offer but Fall is my favorite. I love the changing colors, the warm sunshine on my face, breathing in the crisp cool air each morning while loving on the funny farm, shoveling sh*t and listening to my favorite tunes. Oh and I love pumpkins! June “helped" me put my pumpkins and fall flowers on the porch this week.

Talking to God

This morning, like most mornings, I was talking to God, thanking him for the absolute magic surrounding me and asking for a little miracle.

Most of the time when I talk to God, I just say thank you and ask him to wrap his light and love around me and to guide me through the day. But this morning rather than waiting for the miracles to show up as they always do, both big and small, I asked for a specific miracle.

Our youngest son was seeing an orthopedic surgeon about a shoulder injury that occurred in one of the last plays of the game they fought hard to win last Friday. This kid LIVES to play the game of football with his brothers on the field. The first year we let him play something ignited in him, a true love, a passion, a purpose that he lives for. Not unlike the purpose and passion I watched Jeff discovered when he found his calling in law enforcement. (That’s a story for another day.)

We took him to get X-rays the day after the game and it was determined he had an AC separation and after additional x-rays it was discovered he had a break in a shoulder bone, which meant his season could be done. Kyler is one of the happiest go lucky dudes, super optimistic and very stubborn. He was insisting he would be back for next week’s game. That said, he was unable to practice this week and told on Tuesday he most likely had a minimum of 6 weeks before he could play. Tears fell, and all the emotions were heavy. I reflected on the days I could make it all better with a kiss. How I miss those days. And yes, it could be worse but not to him in that moment. It was hard to find the magic in the messy. One thing I learned when Jeff was injured in the line of duty and recovering from surgeries is the last thing one needs or wants to hear is it could be worse. So as my mom heart broke hearing his emotions overflowing downstairs, I sent him this message.

I just want to say I love you. I know I can’t understand how exponentially sh*tty this all is for you. It breaks my heart to see you hurt and not doing what you love. I am here if you need an ear.  I do know good things always come from hard ass sh*t and this is hard ass sh*t. Love you.♥️

OUR FAMILY MOTTO ♥️

Wednesday morning, he was up early and decided he was gonna focus on eating well and working out his legs to stay strong and committed to being back within a week. Jeff and I both knew that might not be realistic but loved that he was choosing take control of what he could do.

THE MIRACLE

So, the miracle I asked God for this morning was for him to heal and be back to doing what he loves, kicking butt out on that field with his brothers. There was a rainbow shining bright across the sky, as I drove into town to get Kyler all the things I could think of to “make it better”, chocolate milk, bone health supplements etc. when I got the call from Jeff who had just left the surgeon's office with Kyler. We trust him as a surgeon and an all-around good guy.  He did Jeff’s shoulder surgery last year, like father like son! He said he evaluates two things x-rays and ability/mobility without pain. He had Kyler do several physical tests; the doctor fully wrenched on his shoulder where the break is. Kyler was able to do it all without even wincing. The doctor said unless he is the toughest person, he has ever met Kyler couldn’t fake the lack of pain if it wasn’t healing. He said he puts more weight on physical ability than x-rays. He believes with Kyler’s fitness level/muscle strength and youth in his corner, he is already healing. He cleared him to play next week which will be two weeks post injury. My miracle was granted. Kyler will do what he loves sooner than later. The doctor will be on the sideline for the game next week, Kyler will be taped and padded up for good measure and I will be asking God to wrap his light and love around him while he kicks some butt with his brothers.

I know he could get hurt again but I know his heart and he will be where he needs to be on that field with THE BOYS OF FALL.

Well it's turn and face the Stars and Stripes
It's fighting back them butterflies
It's call it in the air, alright yes sir we want the ball
And it's knocking heads and talking trash
It's slinging mud and dirt and grass
It's I got your number,
I got your back when your back's against the wall
You mess with one man you got us all
The boys of fall
